Selling Plans are core to Subscription Program. Selling Plans determine how frequently customers would be billed, how much discounts to be offered to customers for enrolling into Subscription and so-on.
Selling plans are created under Subscription Groups. One Subscription Group can have maximum of 20 selling plans.
A subscription group enables customers to subscribe to a product by giving them options for different billing frequencies like weekly, monthly, yearly etc.
As shown in the image below, Subscription Groups are alternate Purchase Options to "One time Purchases". One Product can multiple Subscription Groups and Subscription Groups further can have multiple Selling Plans.
As mentioned above, Selling Plan determines billing frequency, delivery frequency and discounts for subscriptions among other things.
Customer sees the "Selling Plan Name" in the dropdown once they have selected a Subscription Group as shown below.
"Week, 10% OFF" and "Alternate week, 7% OFF" are selling plans created under "Subscribe to save" group.
Selling Plans have 5 settings(configurations) which can be used to create a powerful Subscription Program as mentioned below:
Delivery Frequency : this defines how frequently the customer would be delivered the product. You can define billing frequency basis days, weeks, months. If you select say 2 week, then it would mean that product will be delivered once in 2 weeks of time.
Billing Frequency : this defines how frequently the customer would be billed for the product. In most of the cases, customers are billed in pay-per-go model; this means that they are billed once for every delivery.
However in some cases if you want to take upfront payment for future orders then you can also charge for 4 deliveries in one go. This is called Prepaid Subscriptions.
Discounts : discounts are powerful means to convert existing customers into subscribers.
There are 2 types of discounts which can be configured on a selling plan:
- Fixed amount discount - for all the products which are mapped to the selling plan, "fixed amount" will be given as a discount.
- % discount - for all the products which are mapped to the selling plan, "% discount" will be given as a discount.
There are 2 advance settings as well:
Min & Max billing cycles - through this setting, you can define minimum number of billing cycles before which a customer can cancel a subscription. Similar to minimum setting, you can also define maximum number of billing cycles.
This setting is used to ensure customers don't mis-use Subscription discounts & gifting subscription boxes where customer wants to buy subscription for maximum of say 3 months.
Anchor day - this feature enables you to bill all the subscriber on the same day.
If delivery frequency is weekly then you can choose a day of the week and if the frequency is monthly then you can choose a date of the month.
You can create upto 20 selling plans in one Subscription Group.
- 2 selling plans can't have same name in one subscription group.
- 2 selling plans can't have same delivery frequency in one subscription group
